It started with 2 pet ratties ...
over 2 years ago! These were from a friend of mine who was breeding for fun, for selling babies, and *gasp* for reptile food! One of these girls was a blue rex dumbo (Bluesette), and the other, a black Berkshire dumbo(Siobbhan). They were curious, fun to watch, and affectionate. I was bitten by the bug!
After getting these 2 girls, I did some research. So much has been learned since I last kept rats as pets! They very much enjoy each others' company, the variety in color is astounding, and there are even DWARF ratties, and rats that resemble Siamese cats! Weeelllll - I had to look into THOSE! Uh-oh ... the group grew a bit!
Bluesette and Siobbhan have since crossed the Bridge ... my dowager empresses, they ruled with iron paws, and were always ready for a hand-out and adoration. In my heart, they are on a pedestal - they were my muses, my teachers, my friends. They got me on this path, and I know they watch me and smile their smug little rat-girl smiles. They know I am a rattie slave!
If you have never enjoyed the company of a rattie, you have missed out. All pet owners tout their pets as being the best, the smartest, the cutest ... all the superlatives! Ratties are all this and more. They get very attached to their people, demand affection and enjoy new toys and problem-solving activities. What you put into them, you get out of them - the more, the better! They are capable of far more as a pet than any other small rodent, as far as interacting with their people. Give them a chance - you, too, will be smitten by this

So what's "Rattie 101"? Well, it is a combination of info I am sharing with you that I have learned, and sort of a blog (intermittantly) of goings-on in the rattery. I will add to it as time allows, please excuse LOOOONG lapses due to Life getting in my way!!
